Darfield is a small town 35km west of Christchurch. You'll likely pass through Darfield on your way to any of the Ski Selwyn Six mountains when traveling from Christchurch.
If basing yourself here for a Selwyn getaway the Darfield Hotel is a great option for accommodation, as is The Oaks of Darfield which also offers fine dining. The Selwyn Gallery is worth a look, with monthly exhibitions.
If it's history you’re looking for, make your way down to Homebush – with its museum, heritage building and gardens, gift shop and restaurant, just 8km from Darfield, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a slice of rural life while visiting Selwyn. The Darfield library has information brochures for the area if you're looking for more to do during your stay.
Darfield is the home of the snow shop Gnomes, who have recently upgraded to a larger store. Stop in for a chat with the team before taking to the mountains, they'll be happy to help with any questions you have. If you've forgotten any gear you'll be able to pick up pretty much anything you need to hit the slopes. They have a range of rental equipment including snow chains and ski touring equipment such as skins, touring bindings and snow safety gear.
