The New Zealand snow season for winter sports usually runs late June to early October and the ski areas will advertise positions around early March - May.

Snow Safety Officer
Minimum Level 2 Avalanche Safety. Proven experience with avalanche mitigation and leading control teams. Conscientious and hard working, you will be studious and detail-oriented in your snow safety approach.
Key Responsibilities: In this diverse role you will operate our equipment, including a PB300W Groomer, Grader, Bulldozer and Skidsteer loader maintaining snow conditions on the ski field and clearing snow from our access road and car parks. You will also perform a variety of other duties to assist in the smooth running of our ski operation including basic maintenance on ski lifts. Required Skills & Experience: Proven experience in a similar role required.
Administration & Lodge Assistant
You will assist the ticket/booking officer and chef, (see descriptions above for skills required). Your duties will include cleaning of huts and assisting in the organisation of food supply, preparation of meals and other duties, as required. You may also be required to assist in the on-field canteen in Palmer Lodge during the day. This position will cover for the chef and the ticket office/bookings officer on their days off.
The Mountain Manager has overall "on-mountain" responsibility for the operations of Broken River. He or she will have proven ability and significant experience in ski area management, risk management, personnel management, and will work closely with Broken River Ski Club management.
In this role, you will be responsible for sales in the ticket office, cash handling and daily reconciliations, the operation of the on field canteen in Palmer Lodge, and liaison with the Club Treasurer. You will be capable of operating the Club's MYOB accounting system and software, and in charge of taking bookings for ski packages and dealing with information requests from visitors, guests and the public.
Ski Instructor/ Field Ops
Broken River is renowned for the quality of its ski instruction which is second to none, and a vital element of the Broken River experience. You will possess an international ski instruction qualification (e.g. NZSIA Level 2, CSIA Level 3, PSIA 3, or above). You will be responsible for organising group and individual lessons for resident guests and day visitors together with weekend instruction and clinics, as required. Snowboarding instruction skills would be a bonus.
Maintenance/ General Hand
You will be responsible for using Club machinery, which may include snow clearance duties in conjunction with the club’s contracted road clearance contractor. This may involve the use of heavy machinery (grader/bulldozer) and other machinery and often involve maintenance and repair duties. A heavy trade licence is essential. Maintenance of equipment essential to mountain operations, including tows, is an important facet of this position, part of which requires welding.
Ski Patrol/ Field Ops
For these positions you will have some professional experience. Medical certifications must include PHEC (EMT). Avalanche safety qualifications, professional membership to an avalanche safety organization (MSC, CAA, AAA), and a current snow blasting certificate an advantage but not necessary. To be suitable for this role you will need excellent problem-solving skills, possess good common sense and decision making skills, enjoy working around people and be calm under pressure.
Chef/ Lodge Manager
We require an experienced chef to run the Club's on-field accommodation. You will oversee the smooth operation of all catering on the mountain. You will be responsible for providing breakfast and dinner for up to 70 guests plus staff in a timely manner, as well as ensuring that cleaning duties for both lodges are fulfilled to a high standard. You will create and allocate costings for weekly menu plans, ensuring that food is ordered, rationed and stored appropriately.
We have some positions for volunteers who are willing to assist on an unpaid basis in the base area, accommodation lodges, and on field in return for food, board & skiing.Daily duties (3 to 5 hours) include snow shovelling, help in the ticket office, gritting walkways, assist the chef with meal preparation, help with dishes in the evenings & light lodge cleaning duties. The remainder of the day is your own.

Snow Safety Officer (1 Position Available)
We are seeking the services of a qualified Snow Safety Officer for the 2019 season (July September approx.) Applicants must have New Zealand Avalanche 2 or equal overseas qualification and have snow blasting experience and qualifications.
Ski Patroller (2 Positions Available)
We have 1 position available for an experienced patroller with a minimum of 2 seasons in the ski industry and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care qualification. Ideally candidates will have successfully completed Avalanche 1 course (or equal overseas qualification) and will have snow blasting experience. The role includes (but limited to) general ski patrol work, assisting Snow Safety Officer with snow safety programme, running the ski area lifts and assisting with setting up the field for events
Short Order Cook & Stores Co-ordinator (1 Position Available)
We require the services of a level headed person with the ability to prepare and cook 3 meals per day for up to 70 guests and an additional 15 staff at our busy Ski Lodge during the 2017 season (3 months July – September approx.) This position is also responsible for the ordering of all mountain stores which include food and cleaning supplies. The position is a key one within the operation and requires good organisational and communication skills along with previous cooking experience for large numbers.
Lodge & Guest Manager (1 Position available)
We require the services of a level headed person who is customer focused and has an eye for detail. You will be responsible for the overall smooth running of Snowline Lodge and its guests (up to 80) and involves managing our online booking system, meeting / greeting guests, answering questions and in general being the first point of call for guests. This position will be full-time during the busy months of July & August and September work will be by negotiation.
Snow Sport Instructors – Ski / Board (2 Positions Available)
Must have NZSIA level one as minimum requirement (but preferably level 2) and minimum 1 seasons experience teaching / instructing within the ski industry locally or internationally. Good Communication skills, able to work in small team environment and have good clear spoken English are requirements.
Ticket Office (1 Position Available)
You will be dealing directly with visitors / guests face to face in the busy ticket office using a POS based ticketing application along with answering all general enquries via phone, email and other social media. We are looking for a level headed person who is well organised and friendly and must be a team player.
Ticket Office / Cafe Floater
Cafe Full-Time (1 Position Available)
We have a full time position available during the season running our busy cafe where we sell coffee and prepared food. Barista training / experience is preferable. You will be dealing directly with visitors / guests face to face and need to have a positive and personable attitude.
Rental / Hire Department
Grader Operator / Road Supervisor / Mechanic ( 1 Position Available)
We are looking for someone with Grader experience – we have a Champion 720a VHP grader also fitted with front mounted snow plough blade. Preferably you will have operated a machine in snow clearing operations / mountain environment although training is available. The role also involves daily road inspections (sometimes several a day), assisting clients who may run into bother on the access road either by getting stuck or with chain issues. We would also like someone with some mechanical aptitude who can help with general servicing and light repairs as they arise.

Ticket Office / Guest Services
For a guest services position, you must have exceptional guest service skills, be familiar with computer systems, experience in cash handling, daily reconciliations or banking.
Lift Operator / Ticket Checker Applicants
Should be competent skiers or boarders, enjoy working with the public and have a tidy appearance.
Ski Technician / Rental Fitter
Preferably with experience in repairing and tuning ski and snowboard equipment. A pleasant outgoing manner with a tidy appearance required for busy hire service.
Ski & Snowboard Instructors
Qualification NZ Stage One is a minimum requirement. Full or part-time positions available. Overseas instructors need to be experienced in teaching and preferably have ISIA qualifications.
Must be able to work varied shifts and be flexible. The ability to work in a cold and harsh environment is essential as is physical fitness. Previous experience with machinery is required.
Machine Grader / Operator

Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
We are looking for a suitably skilled person to join the maintenance team at the ski area.
Duties include the operation and basic maintenance of snow groomers. It is essential that applicants possess a minimum of three winter seasons experience in the operation of winch snow groomers, grooming downhill ski slopes and terrain parks. A working knowledge of heavy machinery and a strong mechanical aptitude, a can-do attitude and not being afraid of hard work to achieve the task at hand is desirable. Applicants require a NZ drivers license and preferably tracks endorsement.
Ski Patroller / Snow Safety
Duties include: ensuring a safe and enjoyable ski area environment for all guests and staff. To maintain and promote the highest possible standards of service, safety and professionalism. It is essential that applicants possess; Professional Ski Patrol/ Snow safety experience; Pre-hospital Emergency Care qualification and possibly Avalanche Safety Stage Two qualification with Snow blasting approved handler certification.
Live in Cook
The staff quarters at Porters is a busy, fun place to be. We're looking for a live-in cook with experience cooking healthy meals for large groups and must have a current driving licence.
Food & Beverage Staff / Baristas
Should be experienced in food handling, food hygiene and preparation. We are also looking for experienced baristas.
Car Park Attendant
Assist guests with parking. Must be flexible to also work in other departments as required.
Shuttle Bus Driver
Must have Class 2 and P licence.
We are looking for lift operations, car park attendants, ticket office staff, ski hire staff, cafe staff and qualified instructors for half-day and full-day work, particularly on weekends and during the July school holidays. We also look for shuttle drivers with Class 2 and P-Licence for weekends.

Snow Safety Officer
Responsible for the safe operation of the ski area (in conjunction with the Ski Area manager). Requires extensive patrol & forecasting experience, assists Field Staff.
Minimum qualifications: NZ or Canadian avalanche level 2, advanced first aid, explosives certificate.
Responsible for all on mountain operations including ski patrol, lift operations (rope tows), snow safety, and customer service.
Minimum qualifications: NZ or Canadian avalanche level 1 recommended, first aid certificate, explosives certificate. Mechanical knowledge of diesel engines and general mechanical skills are an advantage.
Field Assistant (voluntary)
Unpaid position supporting the base area & Day lodge staff, helping field staff as required & generally helping out in exchange for ski pass/food/accommodation.
Customer Services/Bar Supervisor
Customer service leader for the ski area and responsible for operation of the lodge bar. Requires a friendly, enthusiastic & honest person with superb customer service skills and extensive cafe or bar experience, including stock management.
Minimum qualifications: Host responsibility course & bar manager’s license an advantage.
Sole-charge Chef/Cook with 2+ years’ experience in all areas of cooking/baking, organising/ordering. Creating hearty, good quality breakfasts & 3 course dinners for between 30-70 people. Also good at coordinating others including guests to assist with lodge operations. Minimum qualifications: Qualified Chef/Cook or relevant experience in a similar position.
Day Lodge Supervisor
Prepare/cook lunches, sell coffee & food, cleaning & managing the high alpine day lodge. Candidate needs to be a competent skier or snowboarder (required to make it to and from your place of work). Requires a friendly, enthusiastic & honest person with superb customer service skills and cafe or cooking experience. Minimum qualifications: food hygiene and prep course, Chef/Cook qualifications or relevant experience in a similar position.
Base Area Manager
Overall management of the base area and some staff supervision including Cook, Barperson, Day Lodge and Ticket Office. The ideal candidate would have cash handling, basic accounting and reporting skills and retail experience. Also needs superb customer service and organisational skills. This position is only appointed if a suitable applicant is found and fits the make-up of other roles.
Responsible for Ticket Office operations including ski pass sales, lodge bookings and providing guidance to both day visitors and lodge guests. Also assists in the Day Lodge when required. Requires excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, POS), administrative & customer service skills.
Ski instructor for lodge guests and day visitors (on request).
Minimum qualifications: NZ or Canadian ski instructor level 3. Depending on demand you will also assist both Base area and Field Staff with general operations. Please note that due to our terrain and general skier ability, we will not consider anyone with less than these minimum qualifications.
